Years ago before the introduction of digital mixing desks outboard audio units were used all the time however nowadays live sounds tend to use very little outboard audio units and when they do this tends to be for a specific purpose and something that they can not replicate on a digital mixing desk. Popular outboard equipment can include pre amps, FXs, vintage desk channel strips and compressors.
